Fat injections can help men with flat rear ends

It may come as a surprise, but many men feel self-conscious about their posterior. For some guys, working out several times a week and eating a healthy diet does nothing for their rear end. Call it "flat butt syndrome" if you want, but know that certain guys find it to be quite distressing. Fortunately, there are plastic surgery procedures out there that can help.

What it's like to have a flat butt
Jeff Vickers of Radford, Virginia, knows how hard it can be to have a flat rear end. He recently told the New York Times that he used to get strife from his friends about his looks.

"I'd wear jogging pants to work and the guys used to joke that, 'You could drop a plumb bob from the back of your head and the string wouldn't hit anything before it hit the ground,'" he said, quoted by the news source.

Vickers paid a visit to a cosmetic surgeon in Miami who had penned a book about "gluteal sculpting," or reshaping the backside. He told the doctor that he didn't want a "table back there you could sit a coffee cup on," but rather that he simply wanted to have a posterior that would allow him to keep up a pair of paints without a belt.

The butt reshaping procedure
While implants may be the best option for some guys with a flat backside, Vickers opted for fat injections. Essentially, he underwent liposuction surgery to remove fat from his abdomen and love handles. That fat was then injected into his rear end, thus removing fat from where he didn't want it and relocating it to a more suitable part of the body.

The cosmetic surgeon explained to the news source that butt injections aren't uncommon for male patients, because many men seem to lose mass in their buttocks as they age. Weight lifting often isn't enough to combat the problem.

Other options for men
Last year, board-certified plastic surgeons performed nearly 1 million cosmetic procedures on men, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. That's a 106 percent increase in the number of plastic surgeries performed on male patience compared to figures from 1997.

In 2012, the most popular cosmetic surgeries for men included liposuction, rhinoplasty surgery, eyelid surgery and breast reduction to treat gynecomastia, the formation of male breasts.
